Tennis Teams Set For 2023 BIG EAST Championships

Men receives No. 7 seed, women seeded eighth
The Marquette University men's and women's tennis teams will open play at the 2023 BIG EAST Conference Championships this Thursday, hosted by the league in Cayce, S.C.

The women's team is seeded eighth in the 11-team field and will face No. 9 Villanova at 8 a.m. CT on Thursday, April 20 in the first round. The winner between the Golden Eagles and Wildcats will face No. 1 seeded Xavier at 8 a.m. CT on Friday, April 21 in the quarterfinals. Ā Ā Ā

The men's team have been voted the No. 7 seed in the eight-team field and will face second-seeded St. John's Ā at 12:45 p.m. CT on Friday, April 21 in the quarterfinals.Ā

The team champions for both the men and women earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.

"We are looking forward to competing for a conference championship and the opportunity to earn a bid in the NCAA Championship," Director of Tennis Steve Rodecap said.Ā "It's an opportunity for our team to start fresh and it will be great competition all week long."

Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center will host the championship for the seventh consecutive year. The facility offers 30 lighted world-class courts with a championship-sized stadium court that has a viewing capacity of approximately 500 spectators. There are seven dedicated 38' courts for 8 & Under Tennis. Courts are complete with a small central gazebo, iced water coolers and electrical outlets on every court for ball-machine use.

Seeds for the championships will be determined by a committee that reviews each team's regular-season schedule, ITA rankings, results against BIG EAST and common non-conference opponents and wins/losses against ranked foes.

The Men's and Women's Championship matches will be streamed live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) on FloSports. Live coverage of the Men's Championship will begin on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET, while the live broadcast of the Women's Championship gets underway at 1 p.m.
