
Track & Field Runs All-Time Marks at Drake Relays

MU travels to Madison on Friday, May 5 for final tune-up
DES MOINES, IOWA – The Marquette University men's and women's track & field team completed the final day of competition at the Drake Relays Saturday afternoon.
Action at Drake kicked off Thursday, all four Golden Eagles that competed posted the second-fastest times of their careers. Senior captain Emily Noone finished 10th in the 800m with a time of 2:12.74.
In the women's steeplechase, Kate Jochims finished 11th overall with a time of 10:41.32. Anna Penzkover took ninth in her heat with a time of 8:58.89.
On the men's side, Dan Weizeorick finished in 16th with a time of 8:58.89.
"Everyone competed really hard, and it showed with all four running the second fastest times of their careers," said head coach Bert Rogers.
On day two, the men's 4x200 relay team of Gus Kasun, Samuel Cascella, Justin Juniel and Alex Lesperance tied for the 10th fastest time in program history with a time of 1:29.35. The women's team of Juru Okwaramoi, Siani Brown-Carr, Payton Hanselman and Daylee Braden won their heat with the No. 6 time in school history, 1:40.29.
"It was an exciting end to the night with both relay teams running well and recording top-10 marks," said Rogers.
On Saturday, the women's sprint medley relay team of Braden, Brown-Carr, Okwaramoi and Noone ran the fourth fastest time in program history with a time of 4:01.15. They placed third overall in the event.
The men's SMR team took the track as the rain moved in. The team of Justin Juniel, Sebastian Obrzut, Christian Peterson and Cade Ferron finished eighth overall with a time of 3:33.93.
Annika Bynum also took on the elements and cleared a height of 1.63m/5-4.25 ft in the high jump to place ninth.
The 4x400m relay team of Kasun, Van Vooren, Murray and Peterson took home the silver medal with a time of 3:15.51. It's the fastest time in the event since 2015.
"We accomplished a lot of great stuff this weekend and I'm looking forward to one final tune-up in Madison next week," Rogers said.
