All four athletes advance to the CSC Academic All-America Ballot
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country and track & field teams had four student-athletes named to the College Sports Communicators 2023 Academic All-DistrictĀ® Team Wednesday afternoon.Ā
To be nominated for the CSC Academic All-District ballot, a student-athlete must participate in 50 percent of the competitions that an institution schedules in either cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field.
Harry Baker, Dan Weizeorick and Simon Werven earned nods from the men's team and Juru OkwaramoiĀ on the women's side.
In his first year of graduate school, Baker finished the spring semester with a perfect 4.0 GPA and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.89. Baker earned All-BIG EAST honors in both the indoor and outdoor high jump. He was co-champion during the indoor season, clearing a mark of 2.05 meters. Baker earned the bronze medal during the outdoor championships. He cracked the indoor all-time performance list, making it over the bar at 2.07 meters at the Valentine's Day Invitational on Feb. 17, 2023. His mark is tied for ninth all-time.
WeizeorickĀ holds a cumulative GPA of 3.77. WeizeorickĀ qualified for the NCAA West Preliminaries as the 41st seed in the steeplechase, he placed 38th overall. TheĀ Lisle, Illinois native qualified for the west regional by recording the second fastest time in MU history, 8:53.32, at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. He also clocked the top 10 times in the indoor 3,000 meters, 5,000 meters and outdoor 5,000 meters.Ā Weizeorick was also the top finisher for the men at the 2022 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships, taking 35th with a time ofĀ 25:01.8.Ā
WervenĀ graduated with a 3.98 GPA with a double major in interdisciplinary cognitive science and psychology. Werven was the BIG EAST Outdoor Champion in the decathlon with 6898 points, No. 4 all-time. He finished runner-up in the heptathlon at the conference indoor championships withĀ 4952 points.Ā
All-BIG EAST selection, OkwaramoiĀ graduated with a 3.83 GPA, earning a degree in psychology and minors in biological sciences and chemistry. Okwaramoi took home the bronze medal in the 400 hurdles with a season-best time of 1:01.55. At the Drake Relays, she was a member of the SMR team (4:01.15) and 4x200 relay team (1:40.29) that ran the No. 4 & 6 times, respectively, in MU history.
