2023Â ScheduleÂ
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams announced the schedule for the 2023 campaign Monday afternoon.
"I'm excited to see what this year has in store for this Golden Eagles squad," said head coach Sean Birren. "We're adding to a strong returning core with the largest incoming class since my arrival with the addition of seven new women and six men."
Marquette begins the season at Wisconsin on Sept. 9 at the Madison Opener. The Golden Eagles will get an early look at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, which will be the host site of the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 10. MU makes its return to Madison for the first time since 2018.
The Marquette harriers will head to Bradley on Sept. 15 for the Bradley Intercollegiate. MU has competed at Bradley the past five seasons, excluding 2020, but will take on a new course this time around. The meet will be hosted at Detwiler Park, home of the Illinois State Cross Country Championships.
After a week off, MU will travel to Columbia, Missouri on Sept. 29 for the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri. A secondary meet is tentatively scheduled for Sept. 30 at UW-Parkside for those not making the trip to Columbia.
The Golden Eagles will have a week off before setting off for Ashland, Nebraska for the Platte River Rumble hosted by BIG EAST counterpart Creighton on Oct. 13.
MU makes a familiar stop at Illinois on Oct. 20 for the Illini Open. Marquette has sent representatives to the Illini Open the past two seasons. This will be the final race of the season for those not competing in the postseason.
The Golden Eagles will begin the 2023 postseason as the host of the BIG EAST Championships at Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Oct. 28. MU will play host to the conference championships for the first time since 2019 and for the fourth time in the past 10 years.
"I'm thrilled to be hosting the BIG EAST Championships again this season," said Birren. "It will be a great opportunity for Marquette students and alumni to see our harriers in action."
In total, The Golden Eagles are slated to run in five regular season meets with the potential to add more. MU will compete in two postseason meets with a possible third if the team or an individual qualifies for the NCAA Championships in Charlottesville, Virginia on Nov. 18.
