California native helped team to state title game in 2022-23
Caedin Hamilton (Santa Maria, Calif./St. Joseph HS) has signed with the Marquette University men's basketball program, head coach Shaka Smart announced Wednesday morning.
Hamilton, a 6-9, 240-pound forward, will arrive on campus for the fall semester and redshirt in 2023-24.
"We're very excited for Caedin to join our Marquette basketball family," Smart said. "His character and personality are a terrific fit with our team. As a player, Caedin possesses an innate feel for passing, has excellent hands and feet and a propensity for physicality in the paint.
"Most importantly, Caedin's trajectory as a person and as a player is truly impressive," Smart added.
The Santa Maria, California native led St. Joseph High School to the state championship game in 2022-23. The squad claimed its third-straight Mountain League title en route to sectional and regional crowns, before falling in the California Interscholastic Federation Open Division championship to the top-ranked team in the state.
Hamilton was named all-league first team and was also tabbed the 2023 Santa Maria Times Boys All-Area Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged 12.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and blocked almost two shots per contest.
Hamilton chipped in 14 points and 20 boards in the section title game and added 10 points and 10 rebounds in the regional final.
The Knights finished with an overall record of 28-7, including a perfect 14-0 mark in conference action, which extended the team's unbeaten streak in league play to 40 games.
Hamilton played for Rob Icart and Jeremy Jauregui for BTI Hoops out of Pasadena, California.
