MU played with 10 for over half of match after red card
The Marquette University women's soccer team (2-4-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) wrapped up its three-match road swing with a tough 1-0 loss at Wisconsin (5-1-2) Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
Â
"We talk a lot as a team about embracing adversity and learning from it," head coach Frank Pelaez said. "We certainly encountered it today and really proud of the way the team responded, regardless of the outcome. Looking forward to getting better and returning to Valley Fields."
Â
Marquette played a lot of defense on the afternoon as the Badger controlled possession most of the first half and that only increased after MU netminder Mikki Easter was issued a straight red card at the 36:22 mark. Easter came out of the top of the box after a long service and during her attempt to clear, the ball deflected off her leg before hitting her hand.
Â
The Golden Eagles played the remainder of the match with 10 players and Easter will miss the next match. Chloe Olson finished with a pair of saves in 54 minutes of action, including a point-blank opportunity.
Â
The Badgers finished with a 12-4 advantage in shots, including a 7-1 gap in attempts on goal, finally breaking through in the 79th minute.
Â
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, Sept. 14 when the team hosts Western Michigan for a 7 p.m. CT matchup at Valley Fields to begin a four-match homestand.
