LAWRENCE, Kansas – The No. 19 Marquette University women's volleyball team fell to No. 23 Kansas, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14, 25-19, on Saturday afternoon in the Kansas Invitational at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
The Golden Eagles (2-3) rebounded from a 4-0 hole to open the match and pulled out a 25-21 first set victory. Aubrey Hamilton posted five of her team-high 13 kills in the opening frame, as did middle blocker Hattie Bray, who ended the day with 11 kills and a pair of blocks.
The Jayhawks (3-1) responded by taking the next three sets for the four-set victory. London Davis hit .444 with a match-high 14 kills for KU, while middle blocker Toyosi Onabanjo had a match-best six blocks.
MU hit .117 for the match, while Kansas hit .227, including a mark of .346 in the second and .429 in the third.

- The Golden Eagles have nine matches this season against teams currently ranked in the AVCA Coaches Poll (No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 4 Oregon, No. 10 Pitt, No. 20 Creighton (twice), No. 22 WKU, No. 23 Kansas, No. 24 Tennessee, No. 25 Purdue).
- MU will play the remainder of its non-conference schedule (six matches) in Milwaukee. Marquette closes non-conference play with four matches at the Al McGuire Center on campus, the Wisconsin match at Fiserv Forum (home of MU men's basketball and the Milwaukee Bucks) and a Thursday, Sept. 14 match across town at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
- The Jayhawks picked up a pair of sweeps on opening weekend over Pepperdine and Omaha and fell in five sets to No. 25 Purdue on Thursday evening.
- Kansas has won all five meetings between the two programs, the most recent of which prior to this match came in Theis' second season at Marquette in 2015. KU had swept the four previous matchups with MU
