The Golden Eagles add two transfers from Maryville University
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University head men's soccer coach David Korn has announced the addition of two student-athletes in graduate forward Tim Smith (Lee's Summit, Missouri) and freshman midfielder Clayton Hamler (Jefferson City, Missouri), both of whom played for Korn at Maryville University last season.
Â
"Tim and Clayton will be great additions to our team and will fit well with the unit we have," Korn said. "Tim has years of winning experience and Clayton has an untapped potential that will be of benefit for our program for years to come."
Â
Smith was a four-time letterwinner at Maryville. Last season, he scored eight goals and generated 24 total points for the Saints. A Great Level Valley Conference First Team selection in 2023, Smith was also named to the DII CCA All-America Third Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region First Team. Smith started all 22 games in 2022, scored six goals, and was named to the CSC Academic All-District team. Smith has played over 3000 minutes in his collegiate career.
Â
"I've been lucky to watch Tim's development and growth these past four years, he's one of the most versatile players I've coached," Korn added. "His mindset, ability in the final 1/3, and work rate without the ball will help our team tremendously."
Â
Hamler started 13 games last season and amassed over 1000 minutes of action. As a true freshman Hamler recorded one assist and one point while taking six shots with four of the attempts on goal. Â
Â
"Clayton is not only a talented soccer player but he's an unbelievable human being and incredibly mature," Korn said. "He's consistently been a leader and impactful player on the teams he's played on including earning a starting role and helping Maryville to the Elite 8 his freshmen year."
Â
Prior to Maryville, Hamler was a two-time All-State selection at Capital City high school. He was named two-time Conference Player of the Year during his junior and senior season. Hamler was named an ENCL All-American and holds the record for most goals and assists at Capital City.
