MILWAUKEE – The No. 17/18 Marquette University men's basketball team claimed an 87-74 victory over Villanova on Monday afternoon at Fiserv Forum, led by 22 points from junior guard Kam Jones.
The Golden Eagles (12-5, 3-3 BIG EAST) led by three at the half and outscored the Wildcats, 44-34, in the second to snap a two-game losing skid. Senior guard Tyler Kolek posted 21 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals, while Oso Ighodaro notched 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Ighodaro was 9-of-11 from the floor and Marquette shot a season-best 58.7 percent (37-of-63).
Mark Armstrong paced Villanova (11-6, 4-2 BIG EAST) with a career-high 24 points, while big man Eric Dixon played a team-high 33 minutes and scored 15.

NBA HALL OF FAMER DWYANE WADE MAKES $3 MILLION GIFT
Former Marquette men's basketball player Dwyane Wade announced a $3 million dollar contribution that will be utilized to expand literacy, add scholarships, and help future expansion for the Athletic and Human Performance Research Center. The gift will expand opportunities for Milwaukee area children, including increased access to the Tragil Wade-Johnson Summer Reading Program and establishment of the Wade Scholars, a program which will benefit low-income, high-achieving students with increased access to Marquette. A portion of the funds will be used in expansion of the AHPRC, creating more opportunities for tutors, creating more room for advising and study space, and will free-up space for women's basketball and volleyball.

- The Golden Eagles have won five straight against the Wildcats and are now 10-8 in series history in contests played at MU. Villanova still leads 27-17 in the overall series.
- Marquette outscored Villanova by 42 points in the paint, the highest scoring differential this season.
- Kolek had his seventh career double-double with 21 points and 11 assists. Kolek notched his third double-double of the season and his 11 assists are a season-best mark.
- Jones led MU in scoring for the fifth time this year.
- MU had season-high 24 assists to three total turnovers, which is a season low. It's the first time the Golden Eagles had less than 10 turnovers since Nov. 28 against Southern (season low six turnovers).
- VU's 14 3-pointers are a season-high for an MU opponent. The previous high of 13 was recorded by St. Thomas on Dec. 14.
- The Wildcats are the seventh MU opponent this season to hit at least 10 3-pointers. VU was 9-of-18 from deep in the first half and concluded the game with 14.
- Monday was the seventh time this season that MU shot 50-percent-or-better from the field. MU is 6-1 in those games.
- MU shot at least 50 percent for the first time since Dec. 14 against St. Thomas.
