PITTSBURGH – The Marquette University men's golf team successfully defended its title at the RedHawk Intercollegiate at the Pittsburgh Field Club on Monday and Tuesday with a 16-under 836, the third-lowest team score in program history.
MU senior Patrick Adler earned a share of his second medalist honors in as many events to lead the Golden Eagles, who shot consecutive rounds of 6-under 278 to open play and closed with a 4-under 280 on Tuesday.
Adler tied a career low with a final round 65 on Tuesday to push him past classmate Max Lyons and into a share of medalist honors with Brycen Jones of Georgia Southern at 10-under par. Adler was tied for sixth at 4-under when play was suspended Monday night due to darkness.
The native of Winnetka, Illinois, who won his first collegiate event on Sept. 29-30 in the Windon Memorial Classic, posted four birdies in the third round in addition to a pair of eagles on the par-5 third and 15th holes. Adler notched back-to-back 69s in the opening two rounds, and including his 65 in the third, has posted each of his six rounds in the 60s after entering play in the Windon with just two in his college career.Â
Lyons posted a tournament-best 16 birdies at the Pittsburgh Field Club and tied for third at the event with a 7-under 206, including all three rounds under par.
MU also got significant contributions from sophomore Ryan Banas, who recorded the best finish of his young career. Banas, who like Adler attended Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Illinois, notched a pair of 2-under 69 rounds to open play, and tied for 15th at the tournament with a 1-under 212. He and Adler each were among the event leaders with 14 birdies.
Second round play was suspended Monday evening due to darkness with the Golden Eagles one stroke behind Georgia Southern.

THE COURSE
The Pittsburgh Field Club was established in 1882, one year after Marquette was founded, and golf was introduced in 1895 on a three-hole course.
