The Golden Eagles, who enter the event ranked No. 37 nationally in the first National Collegiate Golf Rankings of the year, are led by a pair of seniors in Patrick Adler and Max Lyons and have gotten contributions from their entire lineup this fall.
Adler won his second consecutive event this past week in the RedHawk Intercollegiate at the Pittsburgh Field Club with a 10-under 203 to earn his second BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week honor of the season. He's one of the hottest players in the sport, having fired all six rounds in the 60s at both the RedHawk and the Windon Memorial Classic, which he won on Sept. 29-30 at Conway Farms.
Lyons tied for third last week at the RedHawk with a 7-under 206, just three strokes behind Adler. He carded an opening round 67 and closed with a 70 and 69 for the highest individual finish of his college career.
Sophomore Ryan Banas is also coming off the best performance of his young career with a 15th-place finish at PFC. He posted 69s in the first two rounds and was knotted with Adler heading into the final round of play. His 1-under 212 is seven strokes better than his previous career-best recorded in MU's previous event at Conway Farms.Â
Widal and Cervantes, both newcomers to MU this season, round out the lineup. Widal, a transfer from Division II Tiffin University and a native of Sweden, helped the Golden Eagles to a team victory last week with counting scores of 70 and 72 in the final two rounds to help MU hold off Georgia Southern by one stroke.Â
In addition to MU's top-37 national ranking, the Golden Eagles are receiving votes in the GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Top-25 Coaches' Poll.
