The Marquette University women's soccer team (4-7-3, 1-2-1 BIG EAST) continues BIG EAST Conference play on Sunday, Oct. 13 when the squad hosts UConn (7-3-3, 1-2-2 BIG EAST) at 1 p.m. CT.
  Â
The Golden Eagles will host their annual Alumni Day against the Huskies, welcoming former players from across the nation back to Valley Fields.
O'Connell Shoulders Scoring Load
  Â
Senior midfielder Tess O'Connell netted her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 1-1 draw at DePaul on Sunday, becoming just the third player since 2018 to net five-or-more scores in a season.
  Â
Alyssa Bombacino (7, 2019) and Katrina Wetherell (5, 2021) both led their respective teams in goals and Bombacino was aided by a hat trick in a 3-1 win over Villanova.
  Â
The Wilmington, Mass., native netted just one score in her 66 career matches at Rhode Island, but now owns five in 14 outings this year with the Golden Eagles.
  Â
Through matches of Oct. 9, O'Connell ranks tied for eighth in the league in goals and 10th in goals per game (0.79).
Christianson Not Afraid To Help
  Â
Sophomore midfielder Haley Christianson is ranked among the league leaders in assists (5, t3rd) and assists per game (t3rd, 0.36) through matches of Oct. 9.
  Â
After not recording point as a freshman in 2023 in 14 appearances off the bench, Christianson has taken advantage of her increased playing time (seven starts in 14 outings) in 2024.
MU Honoring Program History
  Â
Sunday's match against UConn is the program's annual Alumni Day, honoring over 30 years and 300 players' worth of tradition.
   Program highlights include:
  Â
Through 14 matches of the year, 22 different players have earned at least one starting assignment and of that group, 12 have made their respective first-ever starts for Marquette (multiple collegiate debuts).
  Â
Just five players - Emily Fix, Tess O'Connell, Adrianna Alberts, Kiara Clarke and Mia Haertle have started all 12 matches.
  Â
Injuries have also been a factor in lineup combinations, with 12 players missing at least one match, including a trio (Ruhland, Downs, Keiper) who won't play at all in 2024. Â
MU Honors Dr. Lovell In 2024
  Â
The women's soccer team, and all programs at MU, will honor former president Dr. Michael R. Lovell (LUV-uhl) this season by wearing patches on its uniforms in 2024-25.
  Â
Dr. Lovell passed away in June after a courageous battle with cancer and was a tremendous ambassador for the university and greater Milwaukee community.
  Â
Dr. Lovell served at MU for 10 years and was a strong supporter of all the student-athletes at the university and a familiar face in the crowd at hundreds of competitions.
