Limited tickets remain for matchup vs. Boilermakers
The Marquette University men's basketball team (4-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) returns to Fiserv Forum Tuesday Night to host nationally ranked Purdue (4-0, 0-0 Big Ten) at 8 p.m. CT. FS1 features the national television broadcast, with Jason Benetti (play-by-play) and Bill Raftery (analyst) calling the action. Following Tuesday's outing, the Golden Eagles will head to Nassau, Bahamas to take on Georgia on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 10 a.m. CT.
Marquette Looking To Reverse Series Trend
Tuesday's outing is the first game in a home-and-home series that will see Marquette return to West Lafayette in 2025-26, but the squads have met on four occasions in the last five seasons.
Purdue has claimed 11 of the 12 meetings all-time between the two programs in a series that dates back to 1931-32. The most recent matchup came in last year's championship game of the Maui Invitational and resulted in a 78-75 win by Purdue.
The Boilermakers claimed a 75-73 overtime victory on March 15, 1969 in the NCAA Mideast Regional final courtesy of a buzzer-beating jumper by Rick Mount. Marquette had defeated Murray State and No. 7 Kentucky in the tourney, but Al McGuire's squad came up just short in its bid for a first-ever Final Four trip. Marquette was led by legendary George Thompson, who scored 28 points in his final collegiate game.
Jones, Mitchell Help #MUBB Hold Off Terps
Marquette picked up its first road win of the season with a 78-74 decision at Maryland Friday night, thanks in large part to the play of senior guards Kam Jones and Stevie Mitchell.
Jones finished with 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the floor, his ninth-career effort of 25-or-more points. He scored 18 of his points following the intermission, including 12 straight down the stretch.
Mitchell, who has scored the team's opening points in each of the first four games, netted 18 points (career-best 19 points at Villanova - 12/31/22) and also capped the team's scoring, knocking down 4-of-4 from the free throw line in the final minute of action to secure the win.
Parham Makes Impact In Limited Minutes
Freshman forward Royce Parham has posted personal-best marks in points in each of the last two outings, most recently netting 10 points in the victory at Maryland.
The Pennsylvania native finished 4-of-5 from the floor, including 2-of-3 from deep in just 13 minutes of action. In the last two outings, he has contributed 9. 5 points per contest while shooting 7-of-10 from the floor overall and 3-of-6 from behind the 3-point line.
For the season, Parham is chipping in 6.3 points per outing, the best mark of any Marquette reserve through four games.
Smart Reaches Coaching Milestone
Marquette's win over Central Michigan on Nov. 11 was the 350th for head coach Shaka Smart in his 16-year head coaching career and his overall record at Marquette is now 79-30 (.725) in just over three seasons.
Smart guided the Golden Eagles to 56 victories in 2022-23 and 2023-24, the highest two-year total in program history. Those campaigns were highlighted by the BIG EAST regular season and tourney title in 2022-23 and the team's first trip to the Sweet 16 in over 10 years last season.
