
Volleyball falls at No. 5 Creighton in BIG EAST Final

OMAHA, Nebraska – Aubrey Hamilton had a match-high 18 kills but the Marquette University women's volleyball team fell 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 to No. 5 Creighton in 2024 BIG EAST Conference Women's Volleyball Championship Presented by JEEP on Saturday at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Hamilton and setter Yadhira Anchante were each named to the all-tournament team for their play against CU and Villanova in Friday's semifinal contest. Hamilton landed a tournament-best 6.00 kills per set and hit a combined .360 in the two matches with 14 total digs and a pair of blocks. Anchante posted 70 assists on the weekend (11.67 per set) with 2.83 digs per set and four total blocks.
The Golden Eagles (23-8) hit a combined .099 on Saturday, while the Bluejays claimed the tournament title with a hitting mark of .295.
Creighton setter Kendra Wait earned tournament most valuable player honors and posted 35 assists, 11 digs and a pair of blocks. Outside hitters Ava Martin and Norah Sis joined Wait on the all-tournament team and each posted 10 kills on Saturday.

NOTABLE:
- Hamilton joins Hope Werch (2018-20) as the only two players in Marquette history to earn three all-tournament nods in the BIG EAST Championship.
- ln five tournament matches during her three seasons at MU, Hamilton has posted 93 total kills for an average of 4.89 per set.
- In 20 matches against BIG EAST foes this season, Creighton has dropped just three of 63 total sets. MU has won two of those and DePaul the other.
- MU is now 14-16 all-time in the BIG EAST Championship.
- Marquette has now advanced to the title match on nine occasions, but is just 1-8 in those games. MU won the 2013 tournament title over Creighton in Omaha.
- Marquette is 7-30 all-time against the Bluejays with all but five of those meetings coming after CU joined the BIG EAST for the 2013 campaign.
- The tournament was last at D.J. Sokol Arena in 2022 when MU swept UConn in the semifinals and fell in five sets to then-No. 15 Creighton. MU won the fourth set against the Jays, 33-31, to even the title match before falling, 15-12, in the fifth. Hamilton and senior libero Carly Skrabak earned all-tournament recognition for their play.
- Last season, MU fell to St. John's in five sets at the Al McGuire Center in the league semifinals.
