Marquette Hosts Villanova on National Marquette Day Saturday
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball team defeated Georgetown Wednesday night, 52-38, in a low-scoring affair at the Al McGuire Center.
Marquette (18-5, 7-5 BIG EAST) was held to just four points in the first, a season-low for points in a quarter. The Golden Eagles were outrebounded 15-6 in the first frame but finished the game grabbing 32 rebounds in the next 30 minutes of play to win the rebounding battle by one.
Liza Karlen had her fifth double-double of the season and third in her last four games with game highs in points (25) and rebounds (10).
Karlen and Frannie Hottinger combined for 37 of Marquette's 52 points. Hottinger was perfect from the line going 9-of-9, finishing with 15 points and six boards.
Georgetown (15-8, 5-7 BIG EAST) was led by Graceann Bennett who had seven points and eight rebounds.

- Wednesday's game was the BIG EAST's second annual Female Forward broadcast. The game featured an entirely female crew, including talent and production.
- Marquette improves to 27-4 in the all-time series and have won the last 13 meetings.
- First game without a made three since Feb. 6, 2022, when the Golden Eagles went 0-of-2 from beyond the arc in a 50-47 win against Creighton.
- Georgetown's 38 points tied the least number of points scored by a BIG EAST opponent. Golden Eagles gave up 38 points to St. John's in a 61-38 win on Feb. 18, 2023.
- Marquette was 20-of-24 from the charity stripe, tied for the most makes from the free throw line this season. MU was 20-of-26 vs App State on Dec. 17, 2023.
- Liza Karlen moved into 27th on the all-time scoring list with 1,154 career points. Karlen passed Lori Goerlitz (1991-95) and Heidi Bowman (1997-01).
- Karlen moved into 15th on the all-time rebounds list with 679 career rebounds. The senior passed Danielle Kamm who had 671 rebounds from 2003-07.
- Jordan King moved into fourth on the all-time assists list with 567 career assists. King passed Lori Goerlitz who had 566 assists from 1991-95.
- King moved into a tie for sixth on the all-time field goals made list with 649 career field goals. The senior passed Kristen Maskala who had 649 field goals from 1991-94.
- Marquette hosts Villanova on National Marquette Day on Saturday, Feb. 10. Tipoff from the Al McGuire Center is at 2 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on FOX.
