Golden Eagles back in action at Illinois State Saturday
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team dropped a narrow 4-3 team decision to UIC Friday evening at Elite Sports Club – North Shore.
The Golden Eagles opened the match by claiming the doubles point with a pair of wins, first at the No. 3 spot (Emilija Kojcic and Tiera Jarmond) and Andie Weise and Lara Kaiser sealed the doubles point at the No. 1 spot.
Early into singles play the Golden Eagles fell behind 2-1, with losses at the No. 4 and 5 positions.
Kojcic knotted the team scores at 2-2 with a straight-set victory at No. 1 (7-5, 7-6).
Shortly after the Golden Eagles' win at No. 1 the Flames took a 3-2 lead with a win at the No. 2 position.
Marquette was able to tie the score at 3-3 with Jarmond taking a tiebreaker win at No. 6 (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).
Coming down to the No. 3 position for the team tiebreaker, the flames took a narrow tiebreak victory to take the 4-3 team decision.
UP NEXT: Marquette will travel to Illinois State, Saturday, March 2 at 4:30 pm CT.
