Fans encouraged to donate by deflection or 3-pointers made
For the remainder of the postseason, Marquette's premier NIL collective, Be the Difference NIL, will be hosting the "March with Marquette" campaign to continue their name, image, and likeness (NIL) support for Marquette's basketball programs.
Aligned with the men's team's emphasis on deflections and women's team's on 3-point shooting, supporters are encouraged to make a commitment per deflection or win in the NCAA tournament, or per 3-pointer made or win in the NCAA tournament.
Since the summer of 2022, Be the Difference NIL has been supporting men's and women's basketball athletes as part of the larger NIL landscape at Marquette. Now two years later, it continues to be a necessary part of the support structure as athletes earn compensation.
"As we navigate the shifting landscape of college athletics, it's critical we stay at the forefront of changes that impact our ability to compete at an elite level. We are approaching the three-year anniversary of athletes having the opportunity to earn money from their own name, image, and likeness, and it has become clear that a robust NIL program is necessary to maintain our level of competitive excellence," Bill Scholl shared when asked about NIL plans at a recent alumni event.
Both basketball programs have been open about the necessity for a strong support infrastructure including NIL to compete at the highest levels. Men's Head Coach, Shaka Smart recently shared "The holistic support of our players, including NIL, is the most important priority for our program. Here at Marquette, we look to combine the support of Be the Difference NIL and the culture we have established within our basketball program to support our young men now and prepare them for their futures."
Women's Head Coach, Megan Duffy, shared similar sentiments in saying "In today's competitive landscape, understanding the impact of NIL is crucial. It's not just about the game; it's about empowering our athletes to build their brands, enhancing our program's visibility, and ensuring sustained success both on and off the field. Be the Difference NIL is an integral part of this."
