Ighodaro Earns MU President’s Award as Athletics Hosts Blue & Golden Globes

Marquette’s annual athletics banquet was held Sunday at Discovery World
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its annual Blue & Golden Globes banquet on Sunday afternoon at Discovery World in downtown Milwaukee.
The Ralph H. Metcalfe Senior Awards were given in addition to the President's Award from Dr. Michael R. Lovell and the annual awards voted on by MU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
After a Marquette career that earned him BIG EAST Scholar Athlete of the Year, NABC All-District 2 Second Team, BIG EAST All-Tournament Team, and consecutive All-BIG EAST Second Team honors senior forward Oso Ighodaro was recognized with the President's Award.
Women's basketball player Liza Karlen earned the Metcalfe Senior Female Athlete Award as a first team all-conference performer who led the Golden Eagles to three NCAA tournaments over her career.
The Metcalfe Senior Male and Female Academic Awards were awarded to Thomas Leonard of men's track and field and Sammy Galvin of women's lacrosse, respectively. Leonard, a Biomechanics major in the College of Engineering, and Galvin, a Nursing major, will graduate in May with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages and magna cum laude honors.
Alexa Maletis of women's soccer and Billy Rojack of men's lacrosse earned the Metcalfe Leadership Awards for their dedication to Marquette and the Milwaukee community at large.
Maletis is an active SAAC representative and has completed a rigorous internship with the Marquette Sports Medicine department while serving as a student athletic trainer throughout the school year by assisting the men's basketball team.
Rojack is also an active member of MU's SAAC, has served as a coach for MKE LAX and the champion Milwaukee Eagles Wheelchair Lacrosse team. In addition to the Metcalfe leadership honor, Rojack was recognized with SAAC's Cura Personalis Award for the second time in as many years for his unparalleled commitment to Marquette Athletics and constituents across campus.
