
Cowan, Verlinde, Williams and Woodward are USILA Scholar All-Americans

Mason Woodward is a unanimous first team selection
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Marquette University men's lacrosse players Devon Cowan, Noah Verlinde, Luke Williams and Mason Woodward have earned USILA Division I Scholar All-America honors, while Marquette was recognized with the USILA Team All-Academic Award.
The Golden Eagles were one of 39 NCAA Division I teams to earn the team honor for posting a team cumulative grade point average above 3.0 for the year. MU's roster earned a 3.40 GPA in the fall and a 3.36 GPA this spring.
All four of the individuals earned their bachelor's degrees from MU in 2023, but returned to utilize their additional year of eligibility this spring.
Cowan completed his undergraduate degree with a 3.73 GPA as an advertising and marketing double major and earned a graduate certificate in leadership studies with a 3.70 GPA this spring. The four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection was a member earned the Diederich College of Communication Scholars Award for Advertising during his undergraduate career.

Cowan departed the program fourth in MU history with 132 career points, including 99 goals, a mark that stands third in program history.
Verlinde finished undergraduate degree in business analytics and information systems with a cumulative GPA of 3.91 and Summa Cum Laude honors. He earned his master's degree in May 2024 in data science with a big data specialty. He was also Inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma (international business honor society) and Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit colleges and universities honor society), and was a four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.
Woodward finished his undergraduate degree in exercise physiology with a cumulative GPA of 3.82 and completed a graduate certificate in sports leadership in May 2024 with a 3.83 GPA. The four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection was chosen CSC Academic All-District in 2023 and was inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, honor society for Jesuit colleges and universities. He was also the winner of Marquette's McCahill Award in 2023, the highest honor awarded a MU student-athlete, recognizing achievement in athletics, academics and service.
Williams graduated with a bachelor's degree in real estate in May 2023 and earned a graduate certificate in leadership this spring with a 3.70 GPA. He's a two-time All-BIG EAST faceoff specialist (2022 and 2024) and finished the 2024 regular season ninth nationally with a .593 winning percentage at the dot. He led MU with a single-season program record 90 ground balls in 2024 and ended his career second all-time at MU with 386 career faceoff wins and a winning percentage of .541.Â

A Scholar All-American must be nominated by his coach and be a student with a senior year academic standing and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale). He will have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to himself, his institution, and to college lacrosse both on and off the field. He must also be an All-American, a member of a North/South team, or an outstanding league or conference player. Each Individual was evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Scholar All-American committee.
