Golden Eagles open campaign against Drexel at Valley Fields
MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University men's soccer team announced its full 2024 schedule Friday morning, a slate which is highlighted by nine matches at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles will begin a new era this upcoming season under new head coach David Korn. Korn came to Marquette after a successful eight‐year tenure at NCAA Division II Maryville University in St. Louis.
"We are excited about our fall schedule and think it provides a good mix of challenging home and away games," Korn said. "We wanted to schedule strong teams from the region and east coast that we felt provided a valuable opportunity to gain experience and grow during the beginning of the season. The non-conference and preseason schedule will help prepare our team for the BIG EAST Conference which we know is always one of the strongest conferences in the country."
After a pair of exhibition matches in mid-August, the campaign will begin with back-to-back home matches on Thursday, Aug. 22, when the Golden Eagles host Drexel at 5:30 p.m. (CT), and on Sunday, Aug. 25 Marist at 2 p.m. (CT).
The Golden Eagles will continue home and home matchups against instate foes at Wisconsin (Sept. 2) and host the Milwaukee Cup vs. Milwaukee (Oct. 8).
Marquette opens BIG EAST play on Friday, Sept. 20, at Villanova. The league home-opener for the Golden Eagles is Saturday, Sept. 28 against Butler. MU will close the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2, when it hosts Creighton.
The schedule includes matches against five teams that were ranked in the top-25 in at least one of last season's United Soccer Coaches poll (Akron, Seton Hall, Wisconsin, UIC, Northwestern), and two teams which played in the 2023 NCAA Men's College Cup (Xavier, Yale).
The squad returns 16 letterwinners and welcomes 13 newcomers who will arrive on campus this summer. The team has appointed Tristan Rønnestad-Stevens, Kyle Bebej, and Matthew Iriarte as team leaders for the 2024 campaign.
