Bieda has served on coaching staffs at Michigan and most recently, Delaware
MILWAUKEE – Mark Bieda has joined the Marquette University men's lacrosse program as offensive coordinator, first-year head coach Jake Richard announced on Friday.
Â
"What we strive to be as a program is consistent with who Mark has been throughout his lacrosse career," Richard said. "He is a selfless leader with a blue-collar work ethic who wants to be great. Coaching offense has changed tremendously in the past five years alone and Mark maintains strong fundamental roots while challenging the status quo with creative sets and ideas. His values align very well with Marquette's greater mission and our team is fortunate to have him on board"
Â
Bieda joins the Golden Eagles after one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Delaware, under head coach Ben DeLuca. Delaware boasted the nation's No. 4 man-up offense, scoring at a .528 clip with the extra man, and turned the ball over at the second-lowest rate in the nation. In addition to assisting offensive coordinator Matt Rewkowski with the man-up unit, Bieda worked on the defensive side with goalie Kevin Ellington, who ranked third nationally in save percentage (.590) and was fifth in NCAA Division I with 13.36 saves per game.
Â
The Blue Hens, who allowed just 9.43 goals per game (fifth nationally), went 9-5 overall and 6-1 in Coastal Athletic Association play before falling to Towson in the CAA title game.
Â
Prior to his one season as a coach at Delaware, Bieda served alongside his brother, Scott, at Michigan as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2023 campaign. While with the Wolverines, Bieda worked with faceoff and wing players on a unit that ended the season eighth nationally in faceoff win percentage, while faceoff specialist Justin Wietfeldt earned USILA Third Team All-America honors. U-M captured its first Big 10 Conference title and advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time that season.
Â
Bieda was a midfielder for four seasons with the Blue Hens from 2018-22 and was a two-time team captain. He helped UD to a CAA championship in 2022 and a run to the NCAA quarterfinals, where it fell to NCAA runner-up Cornell. In 41 career games at Delaware, Bieda posted 79 points on 36 goals and 43 assists and was an All-CAA Second Team selection and earned a spot in the 2022 USILA Senior All-Star Game.
Â
A native of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Bieda graduated from Delaware in May 2022 with a bachelor's degree in economics and was a four-year member of the CAA Academic Honor Roll. Bieda is from the same hometown as former MU All-BIG EAST performers Nick and B.J. Grill.
