Golden Eagles travel to Western Michigan on Sunday
The Marquette University women's soccer team (0-2-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) opened a two-match road swing with a 2-0 setback at Northwestern (2-1-0, 0-0-0 Big 10) on Thursday evening.
Â
Netminder Elise Krone, who has started each of the first three matches this season, finished with a season-high tying seven saves.
Â
"I was proud of our regrouping at halftime," head coach Chris Allen. "We started to find the game a bit and we don't get that opportunity without Elise Krone standing on her head for us. She made some big saves, handled some crosses and the penalty kick to go down 2-0 was a tough break."
Â
Marquette's best scoring changes came in the closing minutes, but the team was unable to find the end of some quality crosses from the left side.
Â
The Golden Eagles trailed 2-0 at the intermission after allowing a goal after sustained Wildcat pressure in the opening minutes and then in the 38th minute NU was awarded a penalty kick on a foul just inside the box and converted for the two-goal lead.
