Golden Eagles open homestand Thurdsday vs. UIC
The Marquette University women's soccer team (0-3-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) wrapped up a two-match road swing on Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 loss at Western Michigan (2-0-1, 0-0-0 MAC) in non-conference action.
WMU broke the match open midway through the second half, netting a pair of goals in just over seven minutes of play. The Broncos finished with an 18-5 advantage in shots.
"Full credit to Western Michigan for a strong second-half performance," head coach Chris Allen said. "With the score 0-0 at halftime we talked about the team that capitalized on its moments would win the game and WMU certainly did that.
"You hate to oversimplify it, but winning teams tend to make winning plays and right now we are making too many mistakes to rightfully deserve to win at game," Allen added. "We are hoping some home cooking next weekend at Valley Fields can get us going in the right direction."
MU appeared to net the opening goal of the match in the opening moments of the second half, but had the goal disallowed after a late offside call.
The match was scoreless at the intermission, courtesy of a pair of outstanding saves by netminder Elise Krone. She tipped the first chance over the bar on a deflected shot and later in the half challenged a WMU forward one-on-one and deflected the shot wide. Krone finished the afternoon with five saves.
