Trio of players net first-career MU goals
The Marquette University women's soccer team (2-5-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) opened a three-match homestand with a 4-0 victory versus Mercyhurst (0-7-0, 0-0-0 NEC) on Thursday afternoon at Valley Fields.

The Golden Eagles's four goals surpassed the team's season total (3) through the first seven matches of the campaign. MU finished with a 24-2 advantage in shots and an 18-2 margin in corner kicks. The team's four goals were its most since a 4-1 win at Butler on Sept. 25, 2022.

"For a team that struggles to create opportunities it was awesome to see us creating, attacking individually and I liked our patterns and our outside backs getting forward," head coach Chris Allen said. "We just need to be a little more efficient with our opportunities in front of the net, but that will come. We need to create it first, before we score."

Marquette controlled possession in the first half and led 2-0 at the intermission after goals by Tess O'Connell and Carly Christopher, their respective first-career scores for the Golden Eagles. MU's defense was just as impressive, holding the Lakers without a shot through the first 60 minutes.

Following intermission, O'Connell headed home her second of the match at the 49:24 mark and transfer Brooke Bisko capped the scoring with just over five minutes left in regulation. MU also had multiple shots cleared off the line by a Mercyhurst defender and the Laker netminders combined for 13 saves.
