Roegner and Ahmad fall just shy of double championship
NORMAL, Illinois - The Marquette University men's tennis team racked up a total of 10 singles wins and four five victories this weekend at the seventh annual Redbird Invitation.
In singles play, Cyrus Ahmad, Evan Glebov, Koji Heineman, Hugh Perrill, Blake Roegner, TJ Ryerson, Remi St-Laurent, and Ivan Vazquez all picked up at least one win on the weekend. Ahmad, St-Laurent, and Glebov led the team with two wins in their respective flights.
In doubles competition, The Golden Eagles were buoyed by the play of Blake Roegner and Cyrus Ahmad as the duo competed in flight A where they took a win over IU-Indy then took a 2-1 decision over EKU. The pairing fell just short of winning the championship as the Redbird took a 2-1 win.
"We were very pleased with our team's effort over a very tough and hot two days of tennis. The highlight of the tournament was how competitive we were in every flight," associate head coach, Jayson Wiseman said. "Blake and Cyrus fell just short of winning the whole tournament and Hugh and Remi did a fantastic job in bouncing back from a first-round loss and winning the backdrop in their flight."
Hugh Perrill and Remi St-Laurent took the consolation final over IU-Indy. The pair of freshmen dropped their first match to North Dakota but put together two victories to finish the weekend strong over EIU and IU-Indy.
