WSOC Falls 1-0 At Home To Creighton

Golden Eagles travel to St. John's Thursday night
The Marquette University women's soccer team (3-7-2, 0-2-0 BIG EAST) opened the home portion of the BIG EAST Conference schedule with a 1-0 setback against Creighton (4-4-1, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles, who collected just one shot in the first 45 minutes, trailed 1-0 at the intermission. Creighton took advantage of a MU turnover and quickly lifted a shot from outside the box into the upper-right corner of the net.
Marquette's offensive attack showed signs of life in the second half, finishing with seven shots, but the Creighton netminder was forced to make just one save. MU's Elise Krone, meanwhile, made both of her saves in the first half and wasn't seriously tested after the intermission.
"It was a tale of two halves," head coach Chris Allen said. "We came out of the locker room and challenged them (Creighton) and the focus was on making the opposing team's goalkeeper make saves.
"Despite all of the chaos, corner kicks, free kicks and everything else, she (Alyssa Zalac) leaves having to only make one save, which isn't good enough to go win a game," Allen added. "I was really disappointed with the first half. We just didn't come out with the fire and energy you need in BIG EAST play."
Midfielders Tess O'Connell and Hailey Christianson each had a pair of shots to lead the way.
