MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's volleyball team swept Providence, 25-10, 25-19, 25-15, on Sunday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center to improve to 2-0 in BIG EAST Conference play.
"I thought we did a pretty good job defensively, making it tough for them to score," 11th-year MU head coach Ryan Theis said following the victory. "We did a good job and they didn't get any easy points. Our blockers were doing a good job getting in front of hitters and I thought we had service pressure throughout the match. It was tough for them to get good looks, or clean looks, to get the ball on the floor."
The Golden Eagles (6-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) combined to hit .330 (45-10-106) and redshirt sophomore Natalie Ring led the way for the first time in her career with nine kills. Middle blocker Carsen Murray posted a match-high four blocks and MU posted nine total on the afternoon.
Marquette hit .378 in the 25-10 first set victory and forced the Friars into seven hitting errors and a mark of -.023 (6-7-44) in the frame. Providence (7-6, 0-2 BIG EAST) managed just 23 total kills on the afternoon, against 21 attack errors, and only one player, Kayla Grant, reached five kills individually.
