KENOSHA, Wis. – Marquette University cross country completed its first race of the 2024 season on Friday at the Vic Godfrey Open in Kenosha.
The Golden Eagles competed against eight other teams at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.
Emma Coon paced the women's side with a career-best 14.42.2 4k to finish third overall.
Four other Golden Eagles joined Coon in the top 10 in Audrey Grimm (15:13.2), Gretchen Pfeiffer (15:13.6), Emily Capper (15:15.0), and Sadie Kibelstis (15:18.2).
The men were led by freshman Edgar Valles who finished sixth with a time of 19:07.2.
Fellow freshman Ethan Aidoo finished 11th at 19:45.01. Sophomore Nick Parrell finished 15th at 19:59.2.
Jack Hackett led the Golden Eagles in his first race as associate head cross country coach.
"It was good to stay close to home and race," Hackett said. "It was a real full circle moment being here leading the team, very thankful, happy and excited to be leading this program."
"Progression. That's the word we're using. We're stacking bricks and every day getting a little bit better," Hackett said.
