
Forbes 21 Points Lead Marquette’s Come Back Win Against Butler Saturday

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's basketball team (10-4, 2-1 BIG EAST) got back in the win column with a 57-54 victory over Butler on Saturday afternoon.
To open play, Marquette got their first five points from junior guard Kennedi Perkins before both teams went on a five-minute scoring drought. Perkins and sophomore guard Halle Vice ended the drought, combining for five points to take the team up 10-8 after one.
Marquette and Butler went shot-for-shot to begin the second quarter, but when sophomore forward Skylar Forbes sunk her first basket of the contest, the Golden Eagles went on a small run over the 10 minutes, powered by Forbes's nine points over the quarter to lead by one at the break.
Trading the lead back-and-forth in the third, Butler took its then largest lead of the game, up by four and. Even with Forbes and Vice's eight points, Marquette remained behind.
The back-and-forth continued into the fourth quarter, going down to the final minutes. The Golden Eagles put together an 18-15 run over nine minutes to get back within one.
Butler's Lily Carmody went 1-for-1 at the line with one minute remaining to give the Bulldogs a 54-53 lead. Lee Volker gave Marquette the lead back with 30 seconds left on a layup (55-54) before Skylar Forbes sealed the win with two free throws with one second left. Forbes (eight points) and Lee Volker (seven points) combined for 15 of MU's 22 fourth quarter total.
The Golden Eagles were led by Forbes's 21 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Halle Vice tacked on 10 points and five rebounds.
Butler (10-7, 0-4 BIG EAST) was led by senior guard Kilyn McGuff, who had 18 points, 17 rebounds and two steals.
