The Blue and Gold recorded singles and doubles wins in last weekend's tournament
The Marquette women's tennis team continued its tournament season at ITA Midwest Regional. The Golden Eagles recorded two singles wins and saw a doubles pair advance to the Round of 16.
MU coach Brett Barnett on the past weekend:
"Overall I'm happy with how this tournament went for us. Â The Midwest region is loaded and one of the toughest in the country and we knew it would be a huge test for us in every match. Â Emma played well beating Valpo and played well at the start against Wisconsin and was unlucky not to be up a set. Â We responded well on day 2. Â Our team energy was much better, everyone was more positive, and it showed with our play. Â Our doubles looked really good. Â They looked great and could be a dangerous team for us. Â I cannot be any happier with how Emma and Joey played. Â
I'm proud of Elise for how she competed and fought all weekend. Â She didn't have a great draw and gave it everything she had against a strong Wisconsin player. Â She was right there with Notre Dame today and gave herself a chance but came up a couple of points short. Â She is playing at a very high level early in her Marquette career.
We did a lot of good things this week. Â I'm learning what we need to work on, but this team is showing they can all play at a very high level. Â I'm excited to get back on court training and keep working hard and improving together."
Singles competition
Emma Davis (MU) def. Jolene Fernandes 6-3, 6-3
Joelle A Fiallo Schad (MU) def. Marta Halbersztadt 6-2, 6-4
Doubles competition
Emma Davis/ Fiallo Schad (MU) def. Tanner/Elle (VALPO) 8-7
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will compete at the NIU Huskie Invitational Oct 31- Nov 2.
