Golden Eagles travel to nationally ranked St. John's Tuesday
MILWAUKEE – The #9/9 Marquette men's basketball team fell to UConn, 77-69, Saturday night at Fiserv Forum.
The Golden Eagles (18-4, 9-2 BIG EAST) failed to take the lead throughout the first half, shooting 32% from the field. UConn (16-6, 8-3 BIG EAST) shot 26% better than Marquette, fueling its lead.
Senior guards Kam Jones and Chase Ross posted 12 points each throughout the half, but Marquette went into the locker room with their largest deficit of the season, down 29-42.
Marquette opened the second half with a 12-8 run over four minutes to cut the deficit to 11. Jones put up 10 points over 16 minutes, bringing the lead to seven. The Golden Eagles found hot hands, shooting 53.3%. The comeback was too little too late, and Marquette was unable to pull through.
The Golden Eagles were led by Jones's 22 points and three assists. Ross posted 19 points as well.
The Huskies were led by sophomore guard Solo Ball, who posted 23 points and 10 rebounds.
NOTABLES
- Marquette's attendance of 18,129 tonight set a Fiserv Forum record and is the team's sixth sellout this season.
- Previous top mark of 18,107 came against Wisconsin earlier this season.
- Marquette's five sellouts at Fiserv Forum are the most since it recorded six in 2018-19, the team's first year in the building.
- Marquette entered play today as one of six teams in the country to feature the same starting lineup all season.
