Weise and Jarmond notch Marquette singles wins
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team fell to Illinois State, 5-2, Saturday evening at the new Sprovieri Tennis Complex.
The Redbirds opened the match by taking the crucial doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 2 positions.
Illinois State continued strong in singles play, securing straight-set victories at the No. 3 and 4 spots to take a 3-0 lead.
At No. 2, Tiera Jarmond earned a straight-set victory (7-6, 6-4), putting Marquette on the board and making the score 3-1.
Graduate student Andie Weise rallied to win at No. 1 in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-1), giving Marquette its second point of the match.
Illinois State clinched the team victory with wins at the No. 5 and 6 positions.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will host Milwaukee on February 2 at 11 a.m. at Sprovieri Tennis Complex.
