Prep standout re-classifying and joining Marquette for 2025-26 campaign
The Marquette University men's basketball team has announced the signing of prep standout Sheek Pearson (St. Charles, Mo./John Burroughs School).
Pearson (6-11, 200) originally committed to Marquette as a member of the 2026 class, but graduated from high school early and is re-classifying to the class of 2025 and will arrive on campus in August. Â He will redshirt in 2025-26.
Â
"We are incredibly excited about Sheek joining our program," head coach Shaka Smart said. "He comes from a terrific family and basketball background and possesses incredible character and intelligence.
Â
"We're grateful for Sheek's uncommon commitment to relationships, growth and victory," Smart said. "Marquette Nation will really enjoy getting to know him!"
Â
A three-year letterwinner at John Burroughs School in St. Louis, Pearson was a top-100 nationally ranked prospect under head coach Darryl "Pee Wee" Lenard. Â He helped the Bombers to a state tournament runner-up finish in 2023-24 and an appearance in the district title game in 2024-25. Â He averaged 16.6 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per outing last season and shot 64.2 percent from the floor.
Â
An all-state and all-district honoree in 2024-25, Pearson was named First Team All-Metro Conference each of his three seasons and led the program in blocked shots his final two years. In his three seasons, the team compiled a 69-19 overall record.
Â
In 2023-24, he contributed 13.2 points, 6.7 boards and 1.8 blocks per game en route to the title matchup and the team finished with a 27-5 overall record. He competed on the AAU circuit with Brad Beal Elite and helped the squad to the Peach Jam U16 championship in 2024 and the U17 title in 2025.
Â
Pearson's addition gives Marquette a five-member freshman class currently rated 18th-best in the country by 247Sports.com. Newcomers Nigel James Jr., Ian Miletic, Michael Phillips II and Adrien Stevens joined the program earlier this summer and have been on campus attending class and participating in summer workouts.
