The Marquette University women's soccer team (1-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) opened the 2025 campaign with a 2-0 victory at Northern Illinois (0-1-0, 0-0-0 MAC) on Thursday night in non-conference action.
"I am extremely proud of our team's effort tonight and it's a testament to the work it put in this offseason," head coach Chris Allen said. "Our players reported for preseason ready to play and our sports performance and sports medicine staff has done a great job as well.
"We were able to score an early goal tonight and execute our game plan," Allen added. "It was great to see those efforts result in a victory," Allen added.
Senior Josie Bieda opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles less than four minutes in, finishing inside the far post from the right side of the box on a nice transition through ball from newcomer Megan Murray.
Senior Adrianna Alberts gave MU a 2-0 advantage at the 22:12 mark, netting her first-career goal on a head from six yards out. Junior Carly Christopher sent in a long service from the left side and after Murray got a touch on the ball, Alberts found herself alone and headed the ball into the side of the net.
Netminder Hailey Wade, who spent her freshman season at Valparaiso, made three saves and collected her second-career shutout.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles open the home portion of their 2025 campaign on Sunday, Aug. 17 at 1 p.m. CT against North Dakota State.
