WSOC Concludes Non-League Play Sunday

The Marquette University women's soccer team (4-3-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) wraps up the non-conference portion of its 2025 campaign when the squad hosts Loyola (5-1-1, 0-0-0 Atlantic 10) on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m. CT at Valley Fields.

Sunday's matchup is the lone outing of the week for the Golden Eagles, who open BIG EAST Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 20 against Butler at 7 p.m. CT in Milwaukee.

MU Looks Forward To Home Stay

After opening the season with five of the team's first seven matches away from Milwaukee, the Golden Eagles will play 4-of-5 outings at Valley Fields over the course of the next three weeks.

Following Sunday's outing against Loyola, three of the squad's first four conference outings will be played at home.

Marquette has already claimed a trio of wins (NIU, Milwaukee, St. Thomas) away from Valley Fields after finishing just 2-6-1 on the road in 2024.

Leigh Facing Former Team

Sophomore Jocelyn Leigh will face her former team on Sunday after transferring to Marquette from the Ramblers this spring.

The Evanston, Illinois, native started four of her 18 appearances at Loyola in 2024 and concluded the campaign with two goals (vs. Eastern Illinois and Purdue) and an assist.

She currently tops the roster with three goals and six points.

Balanced Scoring On Display

Marquette has netted a total of 13 goals through the first seven matches, with nine different players finding the back of the net for the Golden Eagles.

Five players (Keiper, Ruhland, Dorfman, Shea and Alberts) have collected their respective first-career goals in 2025 and forward Jocelyn Leigh has scored in three-straight outings.

Kate Gordon (1999-2002) owns Marquette's record for consecutive matches with a goal, finding the back of the net in seven-straight outings in 2001.

Marquette scored a total of just 22 goals in 20 total matches in 2024.

Offense Shows Signs Of Life

Through matches of Sept. 9, Marquette ranks second in the league in shots (95), second in goals (13), third in points (37) and fourth in goals per game (1.86).

In 2024, Marquette averaged just 1.10 goals per match and collected a total of 91 shots on goal (already 48 through seven matches in 2025).

Allen Not Afraid To Use Bench

While seven different players have started each of the team's seven matches, head coach Chris Allen hasn't been afraid to use his bench early and often.

A total of 24 players have now seen action and a trio of squad members (Erin O'Keefe, Kiley McMinn and Capri Oliviero) have been sidelined with injuries and entered the season as expected contributors.

Golden Eagles On The Attack

The Golden Eagles earned a 4-1 victory at St. Thomas on Aug. 31, thanks in large part to a 31-7 advantage in shots, including a 16-4 margin in attempts on goal (included a penalty kick that was saved).

The shot total was the highest since Marquette fired 24 attempts (17 on goal) against Mercyhurst last year in a 4-0 victory.

Loyola Matchup First Since 2014

Marquette has claimed five of the six all-time meetings with the Ramblers, but Sunday's outing will mark the first matchup since the 2014 campaign.

The Golden Eagles were victorious each of the last four outings, most recently a 3-0 decision on Aug. 22, 2014 at Valley Fields.
