All-time wins leader in program history to be recognized at the Al McGuire Center
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University Athletics and the women's basketball program will honor former head coach Terri Mitchell with a banner ceremony on Jan. 17, 2027, at the Al McGuire Center.
Mitchell's banner will be unveiled during a special halftime ceremony, recognizing a transformative 18-year tenure that helped elevate Marquette women's basketball to national prominence and establish a standard of excellence that continues to define the program today.
"Coach Mitchell changed the trajectory of Marquette Women's Basketball," head coach Cara Consuegra said. "I was fortunate to work alongside Terri for seven seasons and see firsthand the passion, leadership and commitment she brought to this program every day. The culture she built and the relationships she formed continue to impact Marquette Women's Basketball. It's a privilege to celebrate her legacy and all that she accomplished for our student-athletes, alumni and university."
Mitchell served as Marquette's head coach from 1996-2014, amassing a program-record 348 victories and compiling a 348-215 (.618) record. Her 348 wins remain the most by any coach in program history, nearly 240 more than the next coach on the all-time list.
Under Mitchell's leadership, the Golden Eagles reached the NCAA Tournament seven times, the most appearances by any coach in school history. Marquette earned bids in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2011, advancing to the NCAA Tournament Second Round four times. In 2008, she guided the Golden Eagles to the 2008 Women's National Invitation Tournament title, defeating Michigan State 81-66 in East Lansing.
Mitchell guided the program to back-to-back Conference USA regular season championships in 1998-99 and 1999-2000. Her teams posted 20-win campaigns nine times and produced many of the program's most memorable achievements.
