Golden Eagles win six events en route to strong showing in Ripon.
RIPON, Wis. - The Marquette University track and field team recorded six event victories, a program all-time relay mark and numerous personal records Saturday at the Red Hawk Invitational at Ripon College's Willmore Center Fieldhouse.
"We had an excellent National Marquette Day! We had a bunch of excellent performances across the board, taking home several individual event victories and the women's 4x200 relay winning in a very fast time. We are starting to round into form," Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Bert Rogers said of Saturday's meet.
On the women's side, Sophia Abraham won the 60 meters in a personal-best 7.83 after running 7.92 in the prelims. Norah Peiffle placed second in the 60-meter final in 8.00, and Kassidy Papa advanced out of the prelims with a personal-best 8.03.
Kieran Petrie added a win in the 400 meters with a personal-best 1:00.29. In the 200 meters, Peiffle finished third in 27.06 and Jaiden Dornaus placed fourth in 27.21. Marquette also won the 4x200 relay as Abraham, Isabelle Kissane, Petrie and Dornaus combined to run 1:46.44, the second best mark in MU indoor history.
In the field events, Papa won the pole vault for the second-straight week by clearing 3.50 meters (11 feet, 5.75 inches), matching her personal best. Ally Broaddus won the weight throw with a mark of 16.79 meters (55-1), her second best throw ever, while Megan White placed third at 16.02 meters (52-6.75). Sara Stout finished second in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5-1), and Haneefa Adam placed third in the triple jump at 10.98 meters (36-0.25).
Additional women's personal records included Paige Haglund in the mile at 5:20.54, Elise Fischer in the mile at 5:40.41, and Kaylie Earl in the 800 meters at 2:34.59 and the mile at 5:29.84.
On the men's side, John Pitta led Marquette with an event victory in the triple jump at 13.67 meters (44-10.25). In the sprints, Justin Juniel finished fifth in the 60-meter final in 7.14 after running 7.13 in the prelims. Louis Hebson posted a personal-best 7.46 in the 60-meter prelims and cleared a personal-best 1.85 meters (6-0.75) in the high jump.
In the hurdles, Owen Peterson matched his personal best in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95. In the middle distances, Charlie Richardson placed eighth in the 800 meters in 2:00.27 and Charlie McCurdy finished ninth in 2:00.29, while Max Borgmeier recorded a personal-best 4:42.02 in the mile. In the throws, Josh Pirogovsky posted a personal-best 14.93 meters (48-11.75) in the shot put.
