Series With Wildcats Dates Back To 1960
Villanova holds a 29-20 advantage over Marquette in an all-time series that dates back to 1960.
Along with regular season and tournament matchups in league play, the two teams also squared off in the 1963 National Invitation Tournament and the 1980 NCAA Championship. Marquette downed the Wildcats 66-58 in the NIT, but fell 77-59 in the opening round of the NCAA's in Providence, R.I.
The Wildcats have been ranked in the top-15 in 19 of the last 28 meetings against Marquette, including four matchups as the top-ranked team in the land.
The Wildcats claimed the first meeting this season at Fiserv Forum, holding on for a 76-73 win on Jan. 10, 2026. Villanova led by as many as nine points, but MU was able to close to within a single point in the final minute. Freshman guard Nigel James Jr. led all scorers with a then career-best 31 points.
Stevens Dials Long Distance In Win Over Butler
Freshman guard Adrien Stevens had a career night in the win over Butler on National Marquette Day.
The Potomac, Md., native finished with a personal-best 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor overall and each of his made baskets was from behind the 3-point line. Stevens finished 6-of-9 from deep, marking a season high in treys (previous single-game high was a trio of triples, which he collected in four different outings). He also chipped in four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in 37 minutes of action and was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his performance.

Sophomore forward Royce Parham made his first-career start in the league opener and has now reached double figures in scoring in 10-of-13 BIG EAST outings.
