Golden Eagles head into postseason as No. 4-seed next week.
STORRS, Conn. – The Marquette University women's lacrosse team (9-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) closed out the regular season with a 12-10 loss at UConn (7-9, 3-3 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon.
Riley Jenkins would lead the way for Marquette with four goals, while Hanna Bodner and Eileen Dooley would add two each.
The Huskies would get on the board first just three minutes in, but MU's defensive pressure kept the Golden Eagles close. UConn would double their lead to two with five to go, but Serrano would find Mautz in transition to put Marquette on the board. The home team would add another goal with 1:39 left and led 3-1 through 15 minutes of play.
UConn would extend their lead to four early in the second, but Sarah Beth Burns drove towards the goal and found Eileen Dooley for a score to cut the deficit to three. MU would then add two-straight woman-down goals from Riley Jenkins and Hanna Bodner, as the Golden Eagles would head into halftime down just one goal, 5-4.
After the half, UConn would score three-straight to push the deficit back to four, but Dooley would score her second to trail, 8-5. UConn would add another two, and Bodner would score towards the end of the quarter to make the score 10-6 heading into the fourth.
Both teams would trade goals to start the fourth, with Jenkins tallying a score off an Osburn assist, her 200th career point, to move the score to 11-7 in favor of UConn. Jenkins would add her third to cut it to three, but a quick free position from the Huskies moved the deficit back to four with under five to go in the game.
Marquette would get back within two, as Jenkins scored her fourth of the day and Serran found her first to make it 12-10, but the surge came too late, as UConn hung on to win the regular-season finale.
