MLAX Visits No. 12/13 Georgetown in First Place Clash

The Marquette University men's lacrosse team (6–4, 2–0 BIG EAST) is back in action this Saturday, April 11, when they travel to Washington, D.C., to take on No. 12/13 Georgetown (5–4, 2–0 BIG EAST) in a battle for first place in the BIG EAST.
LAST TIME OUT
Marquette earned an 11–10 double-overtime victory at St. John's on April 4 in Queens, improving to 2–0 in BIG EAST play for the first time since 2022.
The Golden Eagles trailed early but battled back to even the game at 4–4 by halftime before taking control in the third quarter. Marquette carried momentum into the fourth, building a 10–8 lead, but St. John's responded with two late goals to force overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime period, Marquette capitalized in the second extra frame as Nolan Rappis buried the game-winner off an assist from Carsen Brandt.
Brandt led the offense with a career-high seven points (2G, 5A), while Andrew Bowman added four points in his first career start at attack. In goal, Lucas Lawas anchored the defense with 14 saves.
HISTORY VS. GEORGETOWN
Marquette and Georgetown meet for the 17th time in program history, with the Hoyas holding an 11–5 advantage in the all-time series.
The Golden Eagles have dropped eight straight to the Hoyas. Last season, Marquette saw Georgetown twice, falling in a double-overtime heart breaker, 10–9, during the regular season and again in the BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals, 19–8.
SCOUTING THE HOYAS
Georgetown enters Saturday with a 5–4 overall record and a perfect 2–0 mark in BIG EAST play, riding momentum from back-to-back conference wins over No. 13 Denver and Providence.
Offensively, Georgetown is powered by one of the most productive duos in the conference in Rory Connor and Liam Connor. Rory leads the team with 44 points (34G, 10A), while Liam has dished out a team-high 30 assists to go along with 13 goals. The Hoyas boast strong depth, with six players tallying 10+ goals, and have recorded assists on 76 of their 114 goals, highlighting a balanced, unselfish attack.
In the cage, Anderson Moore has started all nine games, posting a .540 save percentage and a 10.55 goals-against average. At the faceoff, Hayden Cody has taken on the bulk of the workload, winning 77 of 165 attempts (46.7%).
BRANDT CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
This past Saturday, Carsen Brandt became the eighth player in program history to reach the 100-career point milestone. Brandt now enters Saturday two points away from passing former teammate Will Foster ('22–'25) for seventh all-time.
Brandt also sits fifth all-time in assists (43) and eighth all-time in goals (61).
ALL-TIME VS. TOP-20 TEAMS
Marquette has consistently challenged itself against nationally ranked competition since its inaugural 2013 season, playing 71 all-time games against Top-20 opponents and holding a 10–61 record in those matchups.
The Golden Eagles opened the 2026 season against No. 20/20 Michigan, No. 6/7 Notre Dame, and No. 6/4 Harvard. The program's breakthrough against Top-20 competition came during its historic 2016 season, when Marquette recorded three Top-20 wins, including victories over No. 16 Villanova and No. 1 Denver to capture its first BIG EAST Tournament title and earn its first NCAA Tournament appearance.
Marquette's last Top-20 win came on March 18, 2023, a 12–11 victory at No. 5 Penn State.
