Women's Tennis Takes A Break

UP NEXT Head coach Jody Bronson?s Marquette women?s tennis team has the next few weeks off as they prepare to host the Marquette Invitational on Oct. 29-31.
Senior Elisa Penalvo (Godella, Valencia, Spain / Juan XXIII) was scheduled to compete in the main draw of this weekend?s Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American tournament, but is out of action indefinitely with a recurring injury to her right wrist. Marquette?s top singles player and currently ranked 38th in the country, Penalvo may be out of action until January, when the Golden Eagles open their dual-match season.
LAST WEEK The Marquette women competed at the University of Illinois? Midwest Blast I in Champaign, Ill., on Fri.-Sun., Oct. 8-10. In the Blast 1 Bracket, junior Laura Garcia (Zargoza, Spain / I.E.S. Goya) went 2-1, senior Sara Fernandez (Betera, Valencia, Spain / San Vicente Ferrer) went 2-1 and senior Julia Sapozhnikova (Belarus, Minsk / College of Olympic Reserves) went 1-2.
In the Blast 2 Bracket, freshman Anna Pavlovic (Chicago, Ill. / Loyola Academy) recorded a 1-2 mark, while senior Christine DiMasi (Omaha, Neb. / Marian) and freshman Alex Stankovic (Sollentuna, Sweden / Rudbecksskolan) each went 0-3.
On the doubles side, Fernandez and Garcia went 1-1 in the Blast 1 Doubles draw. The freshman duo of Pavlovic and Stankovic went 1-1 and the senior team of DiMasi and Sapozhnikova dropped its only match in the Blast 2 Doubles Bracket.
