UP NEXT Head coach Jody Bronson?s Marquette women?s tennis team will conclude the Fall season at the ITA-NCAA Regionals on Wed.-Sun., Nov. 3-7, in Columbus, Ohio. The competition will be held in host Ohio State?s tennis complex.
Senior Christine DiMasi (Omaha, Neb. / Marian) and freshmen Anna Pavlovic (Chicago, Ill. / Loyola Academy) and Alex Stankovic (Sollentuna, Sweden / Rudbecksskolan) open play in the singles qualifying draw on Wednesday. The doubles qualifying competition also opens play on Wednesday, with the freshman duo and a senior team of DiMasi and Julia Sapozhnikova (Belarus, Minsk / College of Olympic Reserves) competing.
The main draw starts on Friday, with seniors Sapozhnikova and Sara Fernandez (Betara, Valencia, Spain / San Vicente Ferrer) and junior Laura Garcia (Zargoza, Spain / I.E.S. Goya) competing in singles, and Fernandez and Garcia competing as a doubles tandem.
LAST WEEK The Marquette women concluded a successful weekend by earning the titles of both singles flights at its own Marquette Invitational on Fri.-Sun., Oct. 29-31, in MU?s Helfaer Tennis Stadium. Garcia captured the Singles Flight I championship, while Pavlovic earned the Singles Flight II title.
Garcia, seeded #1 at the event, secured the Flight I championship with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Western Michigan?s Larissa Chinwah. It completed a 3-0 weekend for the Golden Eagles? top singles player. Pavlovic tallied a 4-0 mark en route taking home the Flight II honors. She defeated Melanie Remynse of Western Michigan 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 on Sunday for the title.
In the Doubles Flight, Chinwah teamed with Nikki Thompson to earn Western Michigan the championship. The Broncos defeated a Marquette tandem of Garcia and Fernandez 8-1 in the title match on Sunday.
Senior Elisa Penalvo (Godella, Valenica, Spain / Juan XXIII) did not compete again as she rested her injured wrist.
