ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Marquette women?s soccer team came from behind to tie the Saint Louis Billikens 1-1 in both teams? Conference USA opener at the Billiken Sports Center this evening. Freshman Kate Gordon tallied her third goal of the season with only 12 minutes left in regulation to knot the score, and neither team was able to break through for a decisive goal in 30 minutes of overtime.
Following an evenly-played first half, the Billikens got on the board first when junior Kathleen Schager knocked in a rebound off a scramble from two yards out. Gordon?s goal came from seven yards out in the right side of the box.
The game was dominated by the physical play of both teams and the performance of the goalkeepers. The teams combined to commit 51 fouls. Marquette?s Mo Bothwell, a two-time All-C-USA First Team selection, made eight saves, while Saint Louis? Meghan Burke, an early frontrunner for C-USA Freshman of the Year honors, tallied six saves.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Sun., Sept. 19, when they battle Houston. The Golden Eagles and Cougars are scheduled for a 1 p.m. (CT) kick-off at Houston?s Track & Soccer Complex.
