Marquette Volleyball Tops Illinois at Chicago

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team posted a decisive three-game win over Illinois at Chicago on Tuesday evening at Marquette Gym, topping the Flames by a 15-8, 15-10, 15-11 verdict. The win raises the Golden Eagles' record to 5-16 while UIC saw its mark fall to 13-7.
Marquette's effort was bolstered by a strong offensive attack that saw the team post a 29.0 attack percentage, its second-highest mark of the campaign, while limiting UIC to 17.5 percent. In addition to the offensive efficiency, the Golden Eagles finished the contest with a season-high 13 blocks compared to four for UIC.
Marquette spread out its attack distribution evenly with four players posting 10 or more kills. Freshman Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) compiled a match-high 17 kills while classmate Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) chalked up 16 kills along with a match-best 18 digs which represented her highest total of the season. Junior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) came up with 12 kills and hit for a 41.7 percentage (12-2--24) while sophomore Amy Levin (Palatine, Ill.) made the most of her playing opportunity by notching 10 kills while registering with a fine 50.0 attack percentage (10-1--18). Senior Liz Egasti (St. Charles, Ill.) directed the MU attack with precision, dishing out 53 assists while chalking up 14 digs.
The Golden Eagles return to C-USA action on Saturday (Oct. 21) when they play host to DePaul starting at 7:00 p.m.
