Milwaukee - Nathan Stevens scored in the 37th minute on as Louisville (8-4, 1-1 C-USA) score the match's only goal to defeat 19th ranked Marquette (7-3-2, 1-2 C-USA), 1-0, in men's college soccer on Wednesday.
The goal came as Marquette turned the ball over deep in their end. As goalkeeper Adam Ubert (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) scrambled back to his line, Louisville midfielder Stuart Langrish served the ball to Stevens who hit the volley into the net from seven yards out.
In a match that had only 12 shots -- eight by Marquette, four by Louisville -- and only five on goal, play was dictated in the midfield. Louisville was content to sit on their one goal advantage obtained in the first half.
"Their game plan was to sag and apply intense pressure, which limits your opportunities when you have to go through their whole team," Marquette head coach Steve Adlard said. "It was like the Wisconsin game rerun, only this time we gave away a silly goal."
Marquette, who has lost three of its last four, has not scored in its last three matches and has been shutout for the last 346 minutes of play.
The Golden Eagles begin a four game road trip on Sunday, Sept. 8 with a match at Valparaiso at 1 p.m.
