MU Women's Cross Country Places 27th at NCAAs

AMES, Iowa - In a field of 31 teams, the Marquette women's cross country team finished 27th in its first trip to the NCAA Championships. Marquette's top finisher was sophomore Susan Barth (Bluffton, Ind.) who finished in 68th place with a time of 21:42.0 for the 6,000-meter course.
Barth finished in 68th place and earned 47 points for the Golden Eagles. The Golden Eagles had six runners enter the event, with the top five times factoring in the team scoring. Junior Bethany Harry (Forty-Fort, Pa.) finished 92nd in the 249-runner field with a time of 21:56.2. Senior Erika Jacobson (Sister Bay, Wis.) finished 175th with a time of 22:38.3. Freshman Brianna Dahm (Two Rivers, Wis.) turned in a time of 22:59.7 and finished 205th. In 209th place, sophomore Jessie Swan ran the course at a 23:03.2 pace, and freshman Audrey Schilts (West Des Moines, Iowa) finished in a time of 23:21.4 finishing 221st.
Winning the event was Colorado who posted first- and eighth-place finishes. Kara Grgas-Wheeler of Colorado won the individual portion of the event with a time of 20:30.5. Sara Gorton finished eighth for the Buffaloes with a time of 20:51.3. The Buffaloes also turned in a 30th place finish from Jodi Hughes, a 52nd place from Lesley Higgins and a 71st place from Tara Moody en route to the title. Colorado averaged 21:12.5 as a team.
In the team portion of the event, Brigham Young placed second, Stanford finished third, Boston College placed fourth and Georgetown finished fifth.
