Volleyball Falls in Five Sets to Ball State

Golden Eagles continue play Saturday against James Madison
The Marquette women's volleyball team recorded its first home loss of the season, falling 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 20-25, 11-15) to Ball State on Friday night at the Al McGuire Center.
MU was led by Hattie Bray, who recorded a season high 19 kills. Defensively, Keira Schmidt led the way with six blocks.

How it happened:
The match started off close between the two squads with four ties early in the set. The Golden Eagles began to open the 9-7 lead after a kill by Ella Holmstrom started a 3-0 run to take a 12-7 lead. Coming out of the Cardinal timeout it was all Marquette.
The Blue and Gold kept their momentum as they solidified the 25-22 set win. Bray led with 5 kills followed by Elena Radeff and Holmstrom who posted four a piece.
MU picked up its first dropped set at home after Ball State responded in the second, taking the 25-20 victory leveling the match at 1-1.
The Golden Eagles dominated the third set as they cruised to a 25-18 win. Natalie Ring led with 11 kills and added five digs to push MU to a 2-1 advantage. Bray also put up an impressive effort recording 10 kills and one dig.
Despite the Golden Eagles' effort in the fourth set, the Cardinals forced a fifth with a 25-20 victory. The final set was sealed by Ball State with a late 8-0 run after trailing 11-7.
