Marquette Volleyball Team Tops Memphis

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team captured its first C-USA win of the year Friday evening with a thrilling five-game triumph at Memphis, 15-10, 15-2, 12-15, 7-15, 15-10. The win snapped a seven-match losing streak for the Golden Eagles and raised its overall record to 2-11 (1-1 C-USA). The Tigers fell to 5-7 overall, 0-1 in league play.
Junior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) paced the MU attack with a team-best 17 kills and a 36.7 hitting percentage (17-6--30). Freshmen Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) each chipped in 16 kills with Lopata also registering 11 digs. Sophomore Danielle Hagen (Milwaukee) helped spearhead a strong MU defensive showing with 17 digs.
Marquette posted a 24.6 attack percentage while holding Memphis to 18.5 percent. In the decisive fifth game, MU hit 32.0 percent (10-2--25) while holding the host Tigers to 10.5 percent.
Marquette's next action takes place on Sunday (Sept. 24) when it plays at UAB.
