Marquette Volleyball Team Tops UAB

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team closed out a successful weekend Sunday afternoon with a three-game win at UAB. The Golden Eagles topped the Blazers, 15-9, 15-3, 15-6, the team's first three-game sweep of the year. With the win, Marquette boosted its record to 3-11 overall, 2-1 in Conference USA. UAB fell to 4-9 overall, 0-2 in conference action.
Sophomore Danielle Hagen (Milwaukee) turned in an outstanding match, hitting a career-high 68.8 percent after converting on 11 of 16 attack attempts. Hagen's percentage represented the best mark by a Golden Eagle player this year. Junior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) finished with a match-best 12 kills while registering six block assists. Freshman Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and sophomore Annie Richey (St. Louis, Mo.) chalked up 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
Marquette finished the match hitting a season high 29.5 percent (45-14--105) while holding the Blazers to 12.3 percent (37-23--114). The Golden Eagles finished with a slim 44-43 edge in digs while posting seven total blocks compared to UAB's four.
MU's next action takes place next Friday (Sept. 29) when it hosts Louisville starting at 7:00 p.m.
