Marquette Volleyball Tops Louisville

Milwaukee - The Marquette volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to post a five-game win over the University of Louisville, 16-18, 15-2, 2-15, 15-11, 15-11, in a match played at Marquette Gym. The triumph raises the Golden Eagles' record to 4-11, 3-1 in C-USA. Louisville falls to 7-6 overall, 1-3 in the league.
Freshman Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) led the MU attack with a match-high 22 kills while posting a match-best 15 digs. Junior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) totaled 19 kills and finished with six total blocks. Freshman Ann Lopata (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) rounded out the double-figure kill players for MU with 14.
Marquette recorded a 25.7 attack percentage (74-25-191) compared to Louisville's 21.9 percent (78-35-196). The Cardinals enjoyed a 74-63 edge in digs and out blocked Marquette by a 13-7 margin. Leading UL Anastasia Zaitseva and Kelly McClain, both with 17 kills.
I thought that the team fought hard and I'm proud of their focus," said MU head coach Laura Farina. "We need to continue to build from here and show improvement with each match."
Marquette continues C-USA action tomorrow evening (Sept. 30) with a home match against Cincinnati starting at 7:00 p.m.
